Climate and nature action go hand in hand with economic prosperity. Together, they can create a stronger, fairer and more resilient Sussex for current and future generations
We call on the Mayor to lead the development of a Local Prosperity Plan for Sussex that delivers:
People and communities at the centre
Work with businesses to understand the support they need, and engage communities in shaping the priorities that will help local people and places thrive
A future-ready economy
Build a highly skilled, resilient economy powered by green manufacturing, clean industries, innovation and sustainable enterprise
Skills and good green jobs
Equip people of all ages with the education, training and opportunities needed for the transition to a low-carbon economy, creating skilled, secure and well-paid local jobs
A fairer economy
Keep more wealth circulating within Sussex by supporting local businesses, social enterprises and community organisations, strengthening local economies and reducing inequality
Energy security and resilience
Improve energy security by expanding local clean energy, reducing reliance on volatile global energy markets, protecting households and businesses from rising costs, and removing electricity grid constraints that hold back economic growth
A circular and nature-postive economy
Accelerate the transition to a circular economy that reduces waste, supports repair, reuse and remanufacturing, and creates skilled local employment. Recognise that thriving nature, clean air and healthy rivers are essential foundations for a resilient and prosperous economy
