We call on the Mayor to
Coherent strategic approach
Use of space must give as much importance to protecting nature and climate as to energy, transport, building and the economy.
Promote environmental spatial planning
A proactive integrated approach to land use, creating a sustainable and resilient environment, whilst valuing the ecosystem services that support human and natural life
Drive sustainable energy generation
Identify sites for large-scale solar power generation, on- and off-shore wind power, and other technologies with potential such as tidal.
Planning for nature
Safeguard the Local Nature Recovery Strategy, and the Nature Improvement – Biodiversity Action Plans.
Planning for future buildings
Support the new unitary authorities to develop Local Plans that account for climate and nature in planning decisions, minimising environmental impacts on communities and ecosystems
Transport planning
Planning to maximise walking, cycling and public transport and minimise the need for cars. Create a strategic approach to east-west transport routes across Sussex
