A genuine shift in how we plan, invest, and collaborate can help restore and protect our exceptional natural assets — chalk aquifers, ancient woodlands, wildflower meadows, and rich coastal habitats

Nature sustains life, health and economies, while helping tackle climate and pollution challenges. Protecting nature strengthens communities, supports jobs, industries and sustainable long-term growth

This is what we ask of the Mayor:

Climate and nature at the centre

Put climate and nature at the heart of all strategic plans – whether economic, health, or spatial

Set bold regional ambition

Release a clear, public statement of ambition to be a leader in nature-positive prosperity

Collaboration on a nature-positive strategy

Develop a nature-positive prosperity strategy, grounded in a Natural Capital assessment, to identify opportunities and risks in all sectors

Measure sustainable growth

Innovate and develop new metrics for more accurate measurement and tracking of sustainable economic growth

Integrate Local Nature Recovery Strategies

Make the LNRSs the foundational layer of infrastructure, integrating natural infrastructure protection and development with the Spatial Development Strategy

Oversight of nature recovery

Establish a pipeline of nature based strategic programmes, oversee the implementation and delivery of LNRSs, and look to leverage private capital to accelerate investment in nature recovery
